Where Standard Cobots Reach Their Limits

Cobots must be customized as certified special-purpose solutions!

Painting, coating, dipping, spraying—processes that involve flammable substances, solvents, or hazardous materials place special demands on robotics. Standard cobots are not permitted in these applications.

We adapt cobots for use in ATEX zones (Zones 1 and 2), cleanrooms, and other special environments—with proper certification, CE marking, and complete documentation.

Typical applications

even under difficult conditions and with hazardous substances
  • ATEX Zones 1 & 2: Painting, spraying, and coating with flammable solvents or powders — areas at risk of explosion.
  • Cleanrooms (ISO classes): Pharmaceuticals, medical technology, electronics manufacturing — low-particle environments with strict requirements for emissions and materials.
  • Health-Hazardous Processes: Working with Toxic, Irritating, or Carcinogenic Substances — Cobots Protect Your Employees.
  • Moisture and corrosion protection: higher protection ratings (IP65/IP67) for damp environments, cleaning systems, and immersion baths.

Safe operation and exclusion of liability for the user is key!

Our Approach

in accordance with the ATEX Product Directive 2014/34/EU
  • Requirements Assessment: Whether it’s a specific zone, specific substances, or a specific standard—we determine the necessary certification.
  • Modification Concept: Hardware modification of the cobot to meet the respective protection class or ATEX category.
  • Integration: Comprehensive concept covering all process steps, sensors, and control systems.
  • Certification & CE Approval: Safe operation and protection against liability for the user.

Frequently asked questions

.

What does ATEX mean, and when do I need it?

ATEX in accordance with guidelines for equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres. If flammable gases, vapors, mists, or dusts may be present in your process, ATEX certification of the equipment used is required by law.

Do you provide the certification and CE documentation?

Yes—as a system integrator, we are the manufacturer of the entire system and handle the risk assessment, certification, and CE marking entirely.

Can any cobot be retrofitted for ATEX compliance?

Not every model is equally suitable. For Jaka Cobots, we assess which modifications are necessary and economically feasible for each specific zone—and discuss this with you in advance at no cost.
